Welcome to Day 14 of the 31 Days to Build a Better Saltwater Aquarium Challenge. You made it a full 2 weeks. Congratulations. Because it is Day 14, that means it has been 7 days since your last partial water change.
Today’s task is to complete another partial water change.
But let’s spice it up a little.
If your tank is relatively new (less than a year old), do a 10% water change today. If your tank is more than a year old, and your last water change was a week ago or less, do a 10% water change today.
If your tank is more than a year old and your last water change was more than a week ago, we’re going to jump-start things by increasing the water change to a 20% water change today.
If you have a 40 gallon tank, that means 2 bucket(s) of water (~2 x 4 gallons). That’s not just a partial water change, that’s a 2X’s partial water change. Feeling challenged?
Looking forward to kicking off the third week in the 31 Days to Build a Better Saltwater Aquarium Challenge tomorrow.

Fighting hairy green alge. Have you heard of using fluconoZol? I do a water change and cleaning and it crystal
Clear next day it’s green
Robin, thanks for the comment. I haven’t heard of fluconoZol. Sounds to me like it may treat the immediate issue (the algae growth) but not the root cause and therefore it grows back? Any idea what’s fueling the growth, from a nutrient perspective?
